WHAT ARE XENOBIOTIC TOXINS?

The word “toxins” can refer to animal venom, insect poison, bacterial waste, mold mycotoxins, or other naturally occurring substances, but  hazardous heavy metals and man-made chemicals in the environment are called “toxicants”. When these toxicants enter the body, through inhalation, absorbtion via skin, injected, and consumed in food or water, they are called “xenobiotics” (toxicants foreign to the body).

Most xenobiotics are fat soluble “lipophiles”, and are not easily processed by your natural detoxification pathways in the liver and kidneys, so unhandled lipophiles become lodged in your fat cells where they cause mitochondrial dysfunction. 1, 2, 3, 4

The mitochondria are the power-generators of the body, and fat cells provide the fuel for their ATP (adenosine triphosphate) energy production. When lipophiles in fat cells prevent the mitochondria from functioning, obesity and disease follows. 5, 6, 7

Also, the toxicity of xenobiotics leads to oxidative stress 8 in the form of free radicals.

Free radicals are unstable molecules missing an electron from their outer shell. Being unstable, they go and steal an electron from the molecules in your skin cells, or from your blood cells or from wherever they can.

These free radicals are responsible for the tissue damaging effects of aging, and various age-related diseases, including cataracts, atherosclerosis, neoplastic diseases, diabetes, diabetic retinopathy, chronic inflammatory diseases of the GI tract, aging of skin, diseases associated with cartilage, and Alzheimer’s disease.

In fact, most autoimmune, inflammatory, endocrine, and neurological disorders are the result of a mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and a compromised immune system caused by xenobiotics and poor nutrition.

The illustration to the left shows a mitochondrion among a group of mitochondria inside an adipocyte (or fat cell) which has been contaminated by xenobiotics.

The fat reservoir contains triglycerides that are broken down into 1 glycerol and 3 fatty acids in a process called lipolysis (discussed shortly).

Note: the terms "toxins", "xenobiotics", and "lipophiles" will be used interchangeably going forward.

Working with the most prolific research scientist in chemical toxicology, Harold I. Zeliger, PhD, we have made his Oxidative Stress Index questionnaire available to you.  This powerful tool can predict the onset of disease based on 8 factors, and it’s completely free!

WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE BUILD-UP OF THESE HARMFUL TOXINS?

Sauna Detoxification Using Niacin (aka Detoxination®) is the most clinically proven and studied detoxification protocol to reduce your body burden of heavy metals and synthetic (man-made) chemicals. Over 25 peer-reviewed research papers support the effectiveness of sweating harmful xenobiotic toxins from the body, yet this therapy is 100% holistic.

Dr. David E. Root pioneered the use of this powerful protocol in 1982 for treating workplace chemical and heavy metal exposure injuries, and it may restore your quality of life and health as well!

HOW DOES THE PROTOCOL WORK?

In the simplest of terms, Sauna Detoxification Using Niacin liberates xenobiotics from fat cells which are then excreted with your sweat or captured by “binders”. But there’s a lot more to understand before attempting Detoxination.

In 1987, Dr. Root and his team studied capacitor workers in Semič, Slovenia, exposed to PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). The study showed that the fat content of PCBs in the study group was 200x higher compared to their blood sampling levels―a startling discovery!

After niacin and sauna cleansing treatment, the concentration was about 30% less in the fat cells and 42% lower in blood serum.

It is important to know that no other protocol is as effective as Detoxination in mobilizing xenobiotics from fat cells and providing immediate elimination from the body. When our Protocol is followed precisely, it is also the safest and most sustainable method for reversing the damage caused by heavy metals and hazardous chemicals.

But, a 30% reduction of xenobiotics from a 30-day program may not always be sufficient to reverse conditions, so we recommend 2-3 Detoxination  programs, separated by a minimum of two weeks, for most people.

WHAT IS THE SCIENCE BEHIND DETOXINATION?

Liberation of fat-stored toxins begins with an unusual property of niacin (vitamin B3) which sets up a condition in the body called rebound lipolysis. To understand this concept, it is necessary to explain “lipolysis”.

Lipolysis is the action of breaking down fat reservoirs of triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol for mitochondria to convert into ATP energy.

During this process small quantities of xenobiotics are released from the fat cells along with the free fatty acids (FFAs) into your bloodstream and interstitial fluids surrounding the cells.

This is why you may feel nauseous or have headaches when exercising or doing other strenuous activities―a buildup of toxin-laden lactic acid is flowing throughout your body affecting your joints, brain, and gut.

Free Fatty Acids, Glycerol, and Toxins Mobilizing

When niacin is consumed at levels above 500 mg, lipolysis is depressed for up to 3 hours while the niacin dose is metabolized. Once niacin is no longer suppressing lipolysis, the body is able to resume normal energy production. Studies have shown that this restart produces an overshoot in the amount of measurable free fatty acids which lasts approximately six hours, as shown below. This spike produces 4x normal FFAs, which translates to approximately 3 times more toxin mobilization than normal lipolysis.

The next step in the Protocol begins at least 2.5 hours after ingesting niacin, and it involves 20-30 minutes of aerobic exercise to increase blood flow and push the mobilized toxins to the dermis layers (directly under the skin).

Exercise is followed by several sauna cycles lasting 30-45 minutes of infrared sauna or 15-20 minutes of dry sauna heat stress.

Since lipophiles are hydrophobic, they are not prone to excretion through watery, eccrine sweat. Fortunately, they have another route of elimination called sebaceous sweat.

Sebaceous glands attract mobilized lipophilic xenobiotics.

The sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum that moistens hair follicles and skin, and it is through this sebaceous sweat that toxins are eliminated.

Far infrared saunas are preferred for their ability to generate sebaceous sweat more efficiently, and at lower temperatures.

While most of the mobilized toxins are excreted via sebaceous sweat, some will re-enter the GI Tract.

To prevent these toxins from overwhelming the liver and kidneys, binders such as activated charcoal and micronized zeolite are consumed. These binders mop up toxins and allow them to readily pass through the detoxification pathways and out of the body in the urine and feces.

HOW IS THE PROTOCOL ADMINISTERED?

Our Detoxination® Protocol involves specific, timed steps that are best administered by trained Detoxinicians, however, you can follow our self-directed, or DIY, method detailed in our book!

You can also engage a trained Detoxinican with our Remote Detox Coaching to achieve similar results as in-person treatment.

A typical program for Health & Wellness involves two hours per day for a minimum of 14 days (30 days recommended). Programs to reverse the effects of conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, adrenal fatigue, thyroid issues, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, candida overgrowth, and mold mycotoxins may require 2-3 programs of 30 days. Some extreme exposures, like gadolinium from MRI contrast dyes, may involve even more 30-day programs spaced a minimum of 14 days apart.

Each daily session includes increased doses of niacin, polyunsaturated cold-pressed oils, lecithin, electrolytes, binders, vitamins, and minerals. In addition to toxins, a person can sweat out several liters of water along with essential nutrients; therefore, it is important to properly rehydrate and replenish the body.

You’re invited to schedule a  complimentary consultation to assess whether Detoxination is right for you or not. These appointments are scheduled between 8:30am and 3:30pm PST weekdays.

As reported by our patients. Your results may vary.

Visible results are quite common, too!

Take, for example, this Detective who has been involved in over 180 raids of meth labs in Upstate New York.

His towels showed clear signs of chemicals and solvents excreted from his body—chemicals used in the manufacturing of meth.

The blue stain was identified as sodium hydroxide (a chemical in Drano!).

Detective LeBeau holding stained towel

First Responder of 9/11 holding manganese-stained towel.

Or, this First Responder of 9/11 from the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project operated from 2002-2007 that treated over 4,000 brave men and women—at no cost to them!

Swatches from this towel were tested and found to be morbidly high in manganese from the steel construction of the towers.

This project laid the groundwork for the Utah Meth Cops Project that treated 68 police officers contaminated by chemicals used in the production of meth, and a federally funded project that treated 32 veterans suffering from Gulf War Syndrome.
